After relocating from Colorado in 2003, I soon discovered that the cacti and succulents which had dominated much of my landscape in the high desert conditions south of Denver required very special care here in North Carolina. For nearly two years, I maintained a small collection of winter hardy cacti, enjoyed my wooded lot and collected shade loving plants that I could not have grown previously.

One fateful day in 2004, I drove past the home of Bill and Linda Gluck in Charlotte and could not resist the "Daylilies For Sale" sign in the yard. My interest in the vast array of colors quickly turned into an obsession as I acquired nearly 250 varieties over the next 24 months. My good friend and fellow hybridizer, JD Stadler, fed the fire with encouragement and frequent visits to his seedling patch. Trees in the yard fell at a rapid pace to provide better growing conditions for the daylilies, and my neighbors began to suspect I had lost my mind. Frankly, I was ready to commit myself after paying $175 for Happy Halloween at a club auction.

My first year of hybridizing yielded over 2000 seed, and I currently have approximately 4000 seedlings growing either at the house or off site on borrowed land. My first introduction, Little Miss Sunshine, was introduced in 2010, and I have selected four daylilies for introduction in 2012.
